Who Will Make Your Wednesday Memorable with a Free Movie? The Candy Man Can!
Celebrate making it halfway through the workweek with Cinema at the Red Clay! Join in the fun on Wednesday, February 26th for a free screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
The world is astounded when Willy Wonka, for years a recluse in his factory, announces that five lucky people will be given a tour of the factory, shown all the secrets of his amazing candy and that one will win a lifetime supply of Wonka chocolate. Nobody wants the prize more than young Charlie, but as his family is so poor that buying even one bar of chocolate is a treat, buying enough bars to find one of the five golden tickets is unlikely in the extreme. But, in movieland, magic can happen.
Charlie, along with four somewhat odious other children, gets the chance of a lifetime and a tour of the factory. The children soon enter a wonderland of candies and chocolate. Willie Wonka tells them they can have anything they want – but he is definitely looking for something in return. Can Charlie beat the odds and grab the brass ring?
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was originally released by Paramount Pictures on June 30, 1971. In 1972, the film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score, and Gene Wilder was nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. The film introduced the song "The Candy Man," which went on to become a popular hit when recorded by Sammy Davis Jr. Cinema at the Red Clay is free to attend. Seating is limited and will be granted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Concessions will be available for purchase.
